Erath County is located in Central Texas and has a total land area of about 1983 sqr miles. The county is named after an early pioneer and soldier that fought in the Texas Revolution, George Bernard Erath.

The county has large rivers that interweave including the North Bosque and the North and South Paluxy rivers. With two different geological features dividing the county with the Western Cross Timbers regions in the larger two thirds of the northwestern part of the county and the less treed Grand Prairie areas in the southeastern portion of the county.
