Consisting of 13 counties stretching from the Pecos River in the east to the border of Mexico to the southwest and New Mexico the west and north, the Trans-Pecos or Far-West Texas region consists of arid, Chihuahan Desert topography. The rugged and mountainous areas of the region are home to Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. The Davis Mountains and Marfa Plateau areas have some of the largest cattle ranching operations in the state.
