What is Good Friday?

Good Friday is a Christian holiday that is observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday. It is also known as Holy Friday, Black Friday, or Great Friday. Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ, who is considered by Christians to be the Son of God and the savior of humanity.

According to the Bible, Jesus was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death by crucifixion by the Roman authorities. He was nailed to a wooden cross and left to die, which he did after several hours. Christians believe that his death was a sacrifice that was made for the forgiveness of sins, and that through his death and resurrection, believers can have eternal life.

Good Friday is a day of mourning and solemnity for Christians, but it is also a reminder of the hope and joy of Easter Sunday, when Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Many churches hold special services on this day, and some Christians may also participate in processions or reenactments of the crucifixion.
