Halloween weekend in Texas falls on Saturday, October 31 this year, so towns from the Panhandle to the Hill Country are spreading costumes, candy and haunts across Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
We live and work in a lot of these places, and October is one of our favorite times to see them. Main streets fill up, fire trucks turn into candy stations, and a cool evening on the courthouse square reminds you why folks fall for small-town Texas. Here’s what we found in the towns we love, with the details we could confirm and an honest flag wherever you should double-check before you load up the car.
What Is Happening in Boerne for Halloween 2026?
Boerne’s big day is the Trick or Treat Trail on the Hill Country Mile, Saturday, October 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Costumed visitors of every age stroll historic downtown in Kendall County, filling candy buckets at the shops and restaurants along Main Street, and admission is free.
The City of Boerne points out that Halloween on a Saturday makes it easy to turn the holiday into a full Boerne getaway. For something after dark, a Boerne ghost walking tour starts and ends at DeVino Cellars and runs about 90 minutes, winding past historic downtown buildings and the local legends tied to them. Pair the daytime trail with an early dinner and an evening tour, and you never have to leave downtown.
If you’re spending the weekend here and picturing what everyday life on the Hill Country Mile might feel like, our guide to Boerne TX homes and residential real estate is a good next stop, and the wider Kendall County land and ranch market shows what lies just outside town. Up the road in Gillespie County, Fredericksburg is known for its downtown ghost tours, though 2026 dates and prices weren’t published where we could confirm them, so check with Visit Fredericksburg before you plan around one.

Where Can You Trick-or-Treat Near Marble Falls and Horseshoe Bay?
Halloween in the Park at Lakeside Park in Marble Falls is the Highland Lakes’ signature event. The City of Marble Falls lists it for Saturday, October 31 at Lakeside Park, 305 Buena Vista, from 5 to 8 p.m.
It’s free, no registration is required, and the city says it draws over 3,000 attendees each year for trick-or-treating, games and activities along the shore of Lake Marble Falls. Local businesses and organizations host decorated booths and trunk-or-treat stations, so plan for a crowd and arrive early for parking. The city calendar also shows Lakeside Park and its beach closed to reservations on Halloween, which tells you how much of the park the event takes over.
For anyone weighing Horseshoe Bay TX real estate, an evening like this shows what the Burnet and Llano County lake towns feel like when they all gather in one spot. Horseshoe Bay is a short drive from Lakeside Park, and our team at the Horseshoe Bay-Highland Lakes office knows these lake towns well and can tell you what each one is like day to day.

What Halloween Events Are in New Braunfels, Seguin and La Vernia?
New Braunfels gets the weekend started early with Downtown Spooktacular, Thursday, October 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Main Plaza in Comal County. It’s free, and downtown businesses hand out treats along with the New Braunfels Police and Fire Departments, the Solid Waste and Recycling Division, other city departments and community partners.
Parking is easiest at City Hall, 550 Landa Street, where the city runs a free shuttle to the event from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. This year’s Spooktacular also marks the public debut of the New Braunfels Visitor Center in the 1868 Hinman House, the city’s first stone house, ahead of a grand opening on November 20. If New Braunfels is on your short list, our buyer’s guide to Kerrville and New Braunfels compares two of the busiest markets in the area.
In Seguin, in Guadalupe County, the Seguin Police Department hosts Halloween on College Street, a free trick-or-treat on blocked-off East College Street where officers hand out candy. The city is promoting it again this year, but the 2026 hours weren’t posted in a source we could confirm, and past years have run at different times, so check the City of Seguin calendar before you go. Nearby La Vernia, in Wilson County, tends to celebrate through its fire department, churches and neighbors, so the local fire and rescue and church pages are the best places to find this year’s truck-or-treat and trunk-or-treat times.

What Is On in Canadian, Abilene and San Angelo?
In Canadian, in Hemphill County in the Panhandle and South Plains, the Canadian Community Center is holding a Zombie Run on Friday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Sunset Park. Trick-or-treating around town fills Saturday evening.
Canadian’s community calendars usually list church trunk-or-treats as well, so check the local listings for this year’s day and time. Down in West Texas, Abilene in Taylor County usually stacks up trunk-or-treats at churches, campuses and community spots during Halloween week, and the Abilene Farmers Market and McMurry University have both appeared in local listings. Confirm 2026 times with the organizers, because the listings we found weren’t posted by the hosts themselves.
San Angelo, in Tom Green County, has a well-loved tradition. In past years the San Angelo Fire Department has hosted Truck or Treat at all eight of its fire stations from 6 to 8 p.m. on Halloween night, with candy and a close-up look at the engines. The city’s fire department confirms it operates eight stations, but we couldn’t find a 2026 announcement for Truck or Treat, so check the City of San Angelo before Saturday. The Great Pumpkin Patch at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church has also been a San Angelo October fixture.

Is Thrillvania in Terrell Open on Halloween Weekend?
Yes. Thrillvania Haunted House Park at 2330 County Road 138 in Terrell is open Thursday, October 29 through Halloween night, Saturday, October 31, to close out its 2026 season.
The Kaufman County haunt, east of Dallas in Northeast Texas, spreads three attractions across about 50 acres: Verdun Manor, Cassandra’s House of Clowns and Sam Hain’s Trail of Torment. In October 2026, America Haunts ranked it the No. 5 scariest haunted attraction in the United States. Ticket prices change by night, and Halloween weekend sells briskly, so buy ahead and check the age guidance before bringing young trick-or-treaters. If you’d like a gentler night closer to home, look up the City of Kaufman and downtown Terrell pages for any 2026 trick-or-treat events, since we couldn’t confirm one.

What About Halloween in Alpine and Far West Texas?
Alpine celebrates the way it does most things, as a community, and the Alpine Chamber of Commerce and the City of Alpine are the best places to find 2026 trick-or-treat times. We couldn’t confirm a published schedule for this year.
Even without a big organized event, fall is a lovely season in Brewster County. The historic downtown is easy to walk on a cool evening, the mountains frame every street, and the dark night skies feel even bigger once the porch lights go off after trick-or-treat hours. If a fall trip has you looking at Alpine TX real estate, our page on homes and real estate for sale in Alpine covers the town and its neighborhoods, from in-town streets to properties with acreage.
How Do You Keep Halloween Weekend Safe?
Halloween on a Saturday means more trick-or-treaters out after dark, so a few habits go a long way.
- Drivers: slow down in residential areas and around downtown events, and watch for trick-or-treaters stepping out between parked cars.
- Trick-or-treaters: carry a flashlight or glow stick, choose reflective or light-colored costumes, and stay on sidewalks where there are sidewalks.
- Grown-ups walking with young trick-or-treaters: stay with them, check treats before they’re eaten, and make sure masks don’t block anyone’s view.
- Adults celebrating: line up a sober ride home before the party starts.
Trunk-or-treats and closed-street events like Seguin’s College Street exist for exactly this reason: they put everyone in one lit, car-free place. In rural Hill Country and West Texas areas, where county roads often have no sidewalks or streetlights, a town event is often the simplest choice.
Pumpkin Patches, Fun Runs and Trunk-or-Treats That Give Back
Many of the best October traditions in Texas raise money for something bigger. Church and nonprofit pumpkin patches put proceeds toward youth programs and missions, and costume 5Ks and zombie runs often benefit local causes.
Trunk-or-treats work the same way. Churches, businesses and neighbors decorate their tailgates and hand out candy in one spot, and it’s one of the easiest ways to meet the people who make a town tick. For more ideas on where to pick a pumpkin, see our roundup of pumpkin patches to visit in Texas this fall.
Wherever you spend Halloween weekend, get out, say hello, and support the shops, churches and nonprofits that keep these towns special. Happy Halloween from all of us. 🎃
